Introduction
My name is Justin Penney. I started fishing in January of 2020 as a New Year’s resolution to catch a fish. After a ton of research and time learning I caught my first bass and I’ve been hooked ever since! On one outing, I saw someone fishing from a kayak at a local lake and that became an obsession. It is my favorite way to fish and I’m always excited to share it with everyone I can.
Past Results
This will be my 3rd year participating in the MOYAK Kayak Bass Tournament Trail. 2023 was my first full season where I participated in enough events to be counted in the Angler of the Year (AOY) standings.
My goal for 2023 was to finish in the top 50% of the AOY points. I exceed that goal ending the year at 49th place out of 192 anglers!
For 2024 I am aiming for top 20 overall.
What I Will Deliver
My nature is to learn, share, and teach. That’s no different here. I try to be visible in the community by creating videos, posting photos, participating in groups, going to events, and just having discussions with people. I soak up as much as I can and share everything I can.
That includes people that support me. As I’m having conversations and making content, I want to share my knowledge and share your product or service. Kayak fishing is an affordable, attainable pursuit for the everyday person and those people have everyday person needs. They own cars and houses. They have kids and families. Even if your company has nothing to do with fishing, I assure you the participants that will see your logo have a need for you!
I regularly create videos (specifically tournament recaps), and post frequently on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok). Your sponsorship will be in every video over 1 minute long that is related to kayak tournament fishing as well as an individual post for each sponsor throughout the season.
I will create fishing jerseys with sponsor logos. These will be worn for all practice, competition, and events related to kayak fishing. This includes trade shows, swap and shops, pre-tournament events, check-ins, and so on.
I will also create stickers of your logo to adorn both of my tournament kayaks.
What I Am Looking For
As with all sponsorships, I am looking to reduce my out-of-pocket costs, while driving business to my sponsors. Kayak fishing is inherently affordable, but costs still add up over a season.
Entry Fees | $800 |
Food and Lodging | $1300 |
Gas | $800 |
Equipment Upgrades | $1000 |
TOTAL | $3900 |
Entry Fees
These include 6 regular MOYAK events, an estimate of the Kayak Adventure Series Ozarkana events, and the MOYAK Championship event.
Food and Lodging
Loding will be my pop-up trailer in State Park or Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds. I will stay 3 nights per event. Thursday, Friday, Saturday. This covers electric sites to keep batteries charged up. As with everything, I am mindful of the expense, and this is the balance of cost and comfort that. It’s efficient with money and I get my very best sleep in my camper. This enable me to be refreshed, fit, and ready for a full day on the water.
Gas
This will cover travel to the tournaments as well as the driving required for scouting, pre-fishing, and movement during the tournament. Drew Gregory calls his truck his “outboard motor”. For some events, that is extremely accurate!
Equipment Upgrades
I will be competing with 2 kayaks this year. A Crescent UltraLite for hard to access areas and my trusty Crescent LiteTackle for everything else.
I will be adding a motor to the LiteTackle to increase my efficiency and improve my results and visibility on tournament day. I will be taking advantage of the transom built into the LiteTackle and adding a transom mount trolling motor. This is the most cost-effective route that will provide good performance over a long tournament day.
