Must Have A Camera

The iPhone 4 camera is pretty good especially once apps are factored in that can make really fun photos. It’s also really great at always being in my pocket. It’s also great for sharing immediately and the geotagging makes it nice to document a trip without actually putting forth any effort in to documentation.

I’ve spent the last few months trying to live with and love the iPhone camera after trading my last point-and-shoot for a guitar. Today, that experiment ended when I purchase a Canon 300HS.

I loved my old camera, a Canon SD1000. It was small and fast. It started quickly and took pictures quickly. Picture quality was pretty good and the so-called manual mode gave me just enough control to get the shots that I wanted. This new camera has quite a few of the same traits. I’ll be detailing the differences as I live with the camera for a while.

For now, here’s a group of photos from today. It’s been quite a while since I just took pictures while going through my day. Having a physical shutter button and a wide angle lens allow me to document to situations as I’m in them.

Evan’s First Haircut

It took 28 months, but Evan’s hair finally got long enough to need some attention. There were some seriously long pieces on the back of his head that had no corresponding hair on the front.

Jacey asked for some recommendations on Facebook for a good place to get his first haircut. One of her friends suggested Dave’s in Grain Valley mentioning the pedal car that’s used for a kids chair. This was perfect. Dave’s is decorated with cars and guitars on nearly every surface.

Stars

My mom gave Evan this turtle shaped night light when he was born. The shell of the turtle has star and moon shapes cut out of it and there are LEDs inside that shine through the holes casting images of stars onto the ceiling and walls. It’s been a part of Evan’s night time ritual ever since he had a nightly routine.

The pictures and videos are all from my phone. The picture with the white border came out of the Hipstamatic app. The rest are using the standard camera app.

Archer Langston

Lily and Evan have a new little brother!

Archer was born at 8:00 a.m. on March 3rd. Everything went as smooth as could be. Jacey and Archer were released from the hospital on March 6th.

Today is my last day at home. The time off to spend with my recently expanded family has been a great treat. I think that my being home has helped everyone adapt a bit. It’s definitely not going to be easy (especially on Jacey since she’ll be home with both boys) but I think we’re in a position that the kids are easily manageable.

I want to thank everyone for their notes of congratulations, phone calls, vists, etc. We really feel loved!

Full Week

Thanks to a crappy motherboard vendor work got backed up and I’ve been slammed this week. It also the last week before I start a week long vacation so it’s fitting that it’s been a bear.

I’ve configured a 48 TB Lustre array with 18 additional compute nodes and a 9 node application server running Grid Engine with linux-ha. Pretty full week there.

In between the work, Jacey and I celebrated our 6th anniversary, I finished mixing an album, had Dollar Fox practice and took Lily to Literacy Night at her school.

Full week.

Time For A Dump

Work has been busy. Do to some inattention and some terrible suppliers we’ve been slammed for two weeks. We should have had these orders spread out over two months … not two weeks.

Evan is nuts with the walking. He’s now walking as his main form of movement. He starts to run then he trips. He’s als got a bit of dramatic flair with some simple fales turning into “roll half way across the room” event. Pretty cute.

Lily is having a good time back at school. Today she attended a cheerleading camp. We are really trying hard to expose her to as many activities as possible so maybe some will stick.

I’m planning for my vacation. A week alone! Crazy.

Finally listening to The Band. I’ve never really listened to any of their material. They are often brought up in conversations with the bands that I am in. Hell, both bands cover the same The Band song. I’m only familiar with it in passing. Sort of like the Stones. I just never really listened or paid attention.

We’re nearly done with the next Rumblejetts album. It’s been a LONG time in the making.
