Hard Freeze
Tonight's temperature is expected to drop in to the twenties. We spent the day preparing.
We started with a top to bottom cleaning of our house. With all of the baby preparations we have been slipping a little on the house. It's fully caught up now!
At least once a week I go to my grandparent's to help them around the house. Grandpa recently has both of his legs amputated and Grandma can only do so much. So far it's been oil changes, moving stuff around, and some minor repair to their house. Today I just helped Grandma take her plants to the compost pile. She was pulling and digging up all of the plants that aren't hardy enough to take a freeze.
Once we got home we started the same. The enclose porch is now fully enclosed with all of the storm windows in place. We had the door held open with a bungee cord (pretty white trash) and I undid that and reattached the door closer. As a last hurrah, we grilled burgers and sweet potatoes and pulled both grills, the table, chairs and tomato plant into the porch. I also pick the last few green tomatoes hoping they ripen slowly so I can taste the warmer seasons one last time.
Being the procrastinator, it's now time to hunt for firewood, stock up on washer fluid, grab a few bags of ice melt, and get some sand bags for the truck. Both vehicles have their requisite ice scrapers.
This time of year makes me think a lot about survival kits in cars. Things like blankets, flares, small shovel, ice melt, water, etc. Sometimes when I think of preparation ... I feel like I'm getting paranoid.
Anyway ... this was a pointless laundry list of a post. Good bye warm weather.
