Safety Gear Tradition

This is the second year running that I received a piece of motorcycle safety gear for Father's Day. Granted, this year is a little early ... but still very welcome.

Last year I picked up a mesh Joe Rocket jacket. It's mesh (duh) and is pretty cool throughout the hot parts of the year. The jacket has been phenomenal for comfort and a sure feeling due to the nice fit and padding. I just recently bought the rain liner that zips in to the jacket which greatly extends the temperatures and conditions in which I can ride.

This year I was given a choice between a backpack and a helmet. I chose the helmet. I've been riding with an HJC AC-3, which is a great helmet, but I wanted to get back in to a full face. It's nice feeling the wind and being "in" the trip but commuting 50+ miles a day drives me towards the protection of a full face.

I went to Engle motors based on meeting Chuck. He came in to the Trouser mouse a couple weeks ago and we talked bikes for a while. He told me to come in and check out their selection of gear. So I did. He started showing me the flip up helmets which is exactly what I was searching for. He pulled a few out for me and I started trying them on.

All of the ones that he pulled out had integrated sun visors. I was always annoyed by changing visors when the sun came and went. I also hated wearing the clear visor and sunglasses. This was a great compromise: a full face, that flipped up, and had "sunglasses" that flipped down with a lever. The other benefit of a newer design helmet is venting! This helmet is much cooler (in a temperature way) than my 3/4 helmet.

The transformer aspect is really cool too!
