Friends With Bikes
Nick bought a 1979 XS400 from Nathan. The cafe racer aesthetic has been in Nick's head for a while and tonight he made some headway.
By the time I showed up the engine guard, highway pegs, and rear luggage rack were gone. I helped swap the bars. The first attempt was the stock bars flipped over. It was pretty good looking but a little aggressive feeling. My short stature put my face damn near on the gauges! Nick, didn't suffer that problem. We pulled the stock bars entirely and put on the black drag bars that I used to have on my GS550E. The fit, and feel, were perfect! We had to scrape some paint off of the bars based on the way that the ignition switch works but otherwise there wree no major problems.
I recommended that Nick get a new front tire, new chain, and adjust the clutch. Oh yeah, and air up the front tire! The fork oil could also stand to be changed. These are basic maintanence things, so getting used to them now is a good idea.
