Cat People ... with a Dog.

This past Saturday we added a dog to our family. She's an adult black lab named Wendy. She was a stray that ended up at Jacey's Aunt Shari's house. I never had a large dog growing up. My grandparents had a small poodle, a small terrier mix, and pomeranians. During my my high (non)school years, my Dad had his friends Jack Russel that was fun to play with. Otherwise ... no experience on my end.

Overall, Wendy is great. She's not a puppy, so she doesn't have silly behaviors or destroy things. But, she isn't so old that she is boring. True to her nature, she love to fetch. If you were willing, she would play fetch non-stop for the rest of her life.

We're starting from square one with training. Come, Sit, and Stay are our top priorities. Sit is going well while Come is hard since she is always at foot. The only time she wasn't was when Ryan let her out and she was wandering around neighbors' yards. This brought to light the fact that I don't know how you pick up a 50ish pound dog. Tommy was, fortunately, familiar with the action and carried her home.

We are having a problem with Roxy being aggressive toward Wendy. She is slowly warming up but it's a long way from civil. As of now, Wendy submits to Roxy. If I were a dog ... I would too. She's sharp.
