Pen and Paper; Finger and Keyboard

I'm sure most people don't bother caring about the medium they are writing in. Most things have a distinct place in being a note, created with a pen, or a document, create with a keyboard. As a person who writes just to write, my choice is a little more complicated, partly due to my recent (meaning the last two years) realization that revision is good. It's hard to revise a hand written work. Maybe hard isn't the correct term, tedious sure is! I used to hate revising now I hate re-writing!

I'm not hampered by technology (a point that should be pretty obvious) and I have a laptop that I have pretty much unrestricted access to, but I don't ever use it. I'd have to grab the charger and have a defined place with a surface ... it just seems like a mess. Meanwhile I've got a record back with a large journal, two small journals, a thesaurus, a rhyming dictionary, the book I'm currently reading (Fargo Rock City) and the book the I am forcing my self to read next (The Great Gatsby). This bag, my man bag, also has an iPod (or two), a camera, the charger for the camera, two sets of earbuds, an iPod cable and the occasional pain killer. I moved back to my Numark record bag which had lost its shape so there is also an album of Hank Williams cover holding the bag in its proper twelve inch shape.

I am pretty much always within 30 seconds of this bag. It goes in my car anytime I leave the house. I carry it into the office when I get to work. Overall, I never get in it except for the iPod. I do 99% of my writing or note taking at home. I even have those tiny pocket sized journals specifically to keep in my pocket and I only use them for work.
