Earache My Eye
Today I had an eyeache and it was completely my own fault.
Shane found a small round magnet in the build-out room. Last week I saw simple electric engine created with a round magnet, a AA battery and a bit of wire. In the instructions it mentioned that making a slight impression in the positive terminal of the battery will help keep the end of the wire in place. I was a bit over-zealous in making a small indentation and I punctured the battery. This was one of those weird blurry moments. Everything happened so fast but I knew exactly what was going on.
I heard the pop and saw the spraying grey goop and felt the burning in my right eye. Simultaneously Shane yelled, "Oh shit, dude!" I ran immediately to the kitchen and started rinsing my right eye. I was a little freaked out and out of breath from stress. The water running on my face made breathing even more erratic as the "do no drown" reflex would kick in when the water hit my nose. Everyone came in to see how I was. It was nice of them to care.
After a couple minutes Shelly suggested that I go to the hospital or at least call the poison control center. I went to my desk and called. They answered quickly and gave me great answers. The woman on the phone was very quick on directed with her answers. She instructed me to rinse my eye for twenty minutes and to consult of physician if it stays irritated. She also gave me a better way to get the water into my eye, let the water hit your temple and flow down into and over your eye. This worked very well! I spent a while, maybe twenty minutes with my head in the kitchen faucet.
Right now I am feeling fine. My eye feels weird but not directly irritated. I'll take another reading in the morning. My vision is fine; I can't tell any difference between my eyes. I'm hoping I was thorough enough and that I have no further complications. It's been quite a few hours now so I don't expect any additional problems.
