Cult of Mac
The Penney family joined this little group this afternoon with the purchase of a Mac Mini. Since taking my 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo machine back to run my studio we only had Jacey's laptop available as a general use machine in the office.
I was pushing for a MacBook or a 20" iMac but the little Mac Mini really appealed to my miserly side. Jacey was more interested in the cheaper machine as well.
I also purchased my third iPod, an 8 GB iPod touch. This marks the fifth iPod we've had as a family so maybe we should be counted as an iPod to Mac conversion. The usability and smoothness of the iPod and iTunes interfaces really made me look harder at Macs.
OS X does appeal to my geeky side. I'm not only attracted to the pretty shiny things. Having a real Unix environment holding the interface up is wonderful. While a Windows computer can do most everything, I still feel hampered by the environment. I'm so comfortable on Linux machines that the Windows hoops feel like stop strips. OS X feels like Linux ... but slick.
