Zune vs. iPod
I'm not writing this yet. I did receive my black, refurbed 30 GB Zune from Woot.com today ... but I left the sync cable on my desk at work. I am running the old firmware and I only have the content that came on it. Not a very good comparison.
Physically the Zune is huge when you compare it to the iPod video. The plastic looks and feels cheap in comparison. Though, my iPod has cracks in the glass cover. Not too durable. The metal back on the iPod is also pretty torn up with scratches. The "Oh, that's nice" award still goes to the iPod.
The larger sized Zune has a larger sized screen but the iPod is a lot more clear. Though this isn't exactly fair since I don't have the same content on them.
I do like that the Zune has a radio. I know it seems stupid to have 30 GB worth of space for music and video and then tune in a terrestrial radio station ... but I do it. Radio give me reassurance that there is an entire world that is existing right now. This is the same glitch that makes it sometimes necessary for me to have a TV on to sleep. This week has been a particularly bad one in this area.
I'm going to load the Zune up tomorrow, which will be easy since the Zune software appears to have gone through the iTunes database and added everything but the podcasts. We will be on the road for about 8 hours this weekend. Jacey and I will definitely give it a workout.
I was surprised to see the Thermals pre-loaded on the Zune. I first heard them through a live performance on KEXP and they really get me going.
