Zune vs. iPod: Screen and Podcasting
The Zune screen is considerably larger, but it is the same resolution. The black areas on the Zune are very black however the rest of the colors seem washed out. Skin tones are very chalky. Some of that may be due to the transcoding to put the video into a format that the Zune can play. Everything I have is in the format that the iPod prefers. The size is nice. Also, the squared off corners let you set the Zune up on edge. The round iPod does not.
Where the hell are the podcasts?! Podcasting is a really high priority for me as I listen to a LOT of them. I looked at some of the add-on software packages but they all seemed like a Leatherman when I just needed a sharp blade.
Flip-flop. When the term "podcast" jumped into the internet vernacular I thought it was a ridiculous name for a ridiculous concept. My impression was Jimmy down the street using a crap microphone to rant about some trivial thing that he has wrong anyway. While there are plenty of those, a lot of great content is available. I openly chided people that even said podcast but now here I am lambasting the Zune for the lack of built in podcast support. This very nearly ends my Zune experience. I'm gong to wait for the "2.0" firmware, Microsoft does a lot better on the second (or third) go around; think about "Service Pack 2." Though that is easier to keep track of than names of large cats.
