A New iPod or An Adventure In Exploring My Music Collection
This weekend I purchased a 30GB iPod video. I almost got the 80GB but I looked at my mp3 directory and it was 32GB. I knew that I wouldn't want to put everything on there. There are some partials, some unorganized and some I just don't care to listen too. All said and done a 30GB iPod ends up at around 28GB.
I got home, hooked up the new iPod and started picking and choosing what was going on. I was keeping any whole album that I love, like or need to listen too. I hit 27GB. I pared it down some by removing the obviously lackluster albums. That took it down to 23GB. This one is a little harder. I feel bad taking some albums off. They were so important to me at some point and I want to keep them with me! I may not ever listen to them, or even skip if any of the songs come up on random. Why can't I just let go and pull them off. I still have the mp3s and most likely the physical CD. The eMusic albums can all be re-downloaded at anytime.
I never felt bad with the Nano. It was an understood that I only had 4GB of space and not everyone could fit. Now that I pretty much can keep everything I almost feel like I'm hurting the bands by not keeping their entire catalog with me.
The impetus for this culling of my new iPod was the purchase of a "season pass" of "South Park." I don't have cable and other than Comedy Central . . . I don't really have any desire to get it. Unfortunately, everyone at my office watches quite a bit of TV, specifically "South Park," and they talk about it pretty frequently, leaving me in the cold. I watch the shows in syndication on channel 38 pretty often but that's not nearly topical enough. So now I've got to make room for 7 "South Park" episodes and some good music isn't making the cut. Sorry guys . . . I still like the albums and songs that I took off, I just don't have room for all of you all the time.
