Why I Love the LP
The whole "analog vs. digital" debate is pretty much dead in my opinion. They sound different, they each have advantages... whatever. I have a Numark portable turntable and I mostly listen on it's built in speakerm... hi-fi!
I love LPs because they have nice limitations. Most LPs clock in at 40 minutes. 20 minutes a side. That's beautiful. That make for concise, tight, GOOD pieces. As I listen to older recordings in the LP format it seems like they weren't as worried about filling time. They wanted to make a good record! Most of my favorite albums are pretty short, the 30 to 40 minute range.
Maybe I have an overly short attention span but I can't take a lot of one band. I can pretty much deal with anything for 20 minutes. It takes a pretty damn good band to take it past the 40 minute mark. There are a select few of those, live or recorded.
During my bike maintenence it was nice to listen to LPs. They always seemed to need attention just as I was needing a bit of relief.
