Another Roof Site
SaveKC.com is an anti-roof site. I'm really... really hoping that this junk does not pass. I am really not looking forward to paying for development for private businesses. How much arena improvement does KC need anyway? You got the downtown arena! Isn't that good enough.
The "for the roof" talk about a 300 million dollar impact in the economy during the Superbowl. It's going to cost 575 million to build! I've been reading that most people that go to the games otherwise are local so bringing outside money in is kind of nil at that point.
They bring up area businesses benefitting. I drove by the stadiums today and there still isn't crap! Taco Bell, BP, Subway and the Clarion. Where are all these new spectators from far-away lands going to stay when they all of a sudden want to see the KC teams? Not anywhere near the damn stadiums that area is an economic vacuum. The closest economic center is the ex-Blue Ridge Mall area. That's currently a giant hole awaiting a Wal-Mart to suck the economy down even further. Talk about kicking an area when it's down!
Where's our transportation? Where's the improved roads? Hell, where are the horizontal grates in the road so bicycles can get through? Well... we've got none of that but you can watch a bunch of sports at our plethora of stadiums and arenas:
- Municipal Auditorium: 10,000 seats
- Kemper Arena: 18,000 seats
- Hale Arena: 5,000 seats
- Arrowhead: 79,000 seats
- Kauffman: 40,000 seats
- Sprint Center: 18,000 seats
