Got Some Speakers
I finally got fed up with the silly little speakers that came with my computer and I went and bought some M-Audio StudioPro 4 speakers. Talk about a drastic change! I was impressed that they had frequency plots of each speaker. Granted they vary from each other in a few places but being that one has an amplifier and power supply inside the cabinet I expect that just inherent in the design. The sweet spot is pretty narrow and I don't have a way to get them up to ear level very well so they sound a little toned down in the high end and head level but when I lean down they perk right up.
Even with the ear level problem thing I'm really happy so far tonight. We'll see in a week or two. Right now I'm thinking that these might be a good second check in the studio.
