She Floats

Lily had to make a boat for school. They were all supposed to make a boat then they would all see if they would float. After a few rounds around the house we decided on wax as the material of choice. We fashioned up a makeshift double boiler and melted down one of the 8 million candles that Jacey has brought into the house. We use the top of our butter dish for the mold.

We coated the inside of the butter dish top with cooking spray (or mold release if you want to sound professional) and layed down the bottom so that it was solid and would be water tight. After the bottom set we layed a banana (also covered in cooking... I mean mold release) and to give the boat it's shape and create the displacement. We filled up the mold and dunked it in cold water.

The whole process went rather smooth over all. The banancame out easily and the boat came out with the tiniest bit of coaxing from a Ginsu knife.

They floated the boats today and Lily's was the best floater. I am a pretty proud right now.
