Microsoft Anti-Spyware, DRM and the Music Industry Sucks... still.
This is a lot like that old Far Side cartoon where you a person picks up a brick that was thrown through their window and the note attached says something to the effect of, "Bricks thrown through your window? Call Acme glass."
Thanks to the RIAA and MPAA and any other organisations that end in AA that don't want you watching movies or listening to music, Microsoft has been adding DRM (Digital Rights Management). DRM works by restricting how a file can be played. Mostly it's a pain in the butt but now it's a great way to get more crappy spyware installed on to your computer.
I recently read a little rant about how the music industry has no "buzz." there is nothing exciting, nothing to make people pay attention to music. The "buzz" is all about how rich people live if you want to go by MTV and VH1. They also mentioned that when Napster (the real one, the P2P sharing one not this iTunes ripoff) was around there was a buzz about music. It was in the press, people were talking about it and people were buying lots of CDs! 200 was the first year that the record industry had grown since the 80's. Now that they'ce clamped down the buzz is gone and record sales are down. They are up a little this year over last but the last few years have apparently been pretty dismal. Not to mention that popular music has sucked so bad the last few years. And since 90% of it was produced by 2 or 3 producers it all sounds the same anyway.
