I just finished up a day with Colbern. They came back to do vocals again. For some reason they keep switching singers so the keep having to come and do vocals.

Today went pretty well. The parts are really good and the singer had a really cool voice. There are some neat things going on with the vocal part overlapping and harmonizing that are really neat to mix in. There's still some more to go on the mix but I think we're pretty close.

They have a part with some gang vocals that are yelled out. They wanted a sound similar to the end of the last song on Brand New's Your Favorite Weapon album. This is a distant sound like someone yelling far away. I started with a boundary mic pretty far away from Stephen and Nathan. That got 90% of the sound right there. For the last 10% I decided to try Vinyl from Izotope. I ran into this while I was looking at mastering plugins and it fit perfect. It added a little more distance and a cool lo-fi-ness to the track.

I also bought CD Architect to do some cooler things during CD burns. I had just been using the Easy CD Creator that came with my drive but now I'm glad that I spent the money.

Tomorrow I'm finishing the mix for The Monarch Song and should have samples of them and Colbern up. To get a more recent sampling of what's been going on over here. Also Johnny Switchblade and the K.C. Crooners should be in here soon to lay down a couple tracks. They should be a cool change of pace being that they are the first rock-a-billy band that I will have recorded.
