New Song on the Samples Page
Head on over to the samples page and check out No Love for Dr. Jones by Civella.
For those interested in the production here goes...
Drums and Jason's guitar were recorded at the same. Jason's amp was in the lounge and and Kyle's drums were in the main room. The drums are are about as simplistic as possible: stereo overheads in a modified spaced pair, mic in the kick and a boundary at the other end of the room for some ambience.
For the guitars we went simplistic as well. Jason ran his humbucker equipped Tele into his Laney half stack and we stuck a 57 on it. For my guitar we ran my Tele into my Deluxe and stucka 57 on it. Simple.
The bass was a Stingray through an Ampeg B-1. We took a DI and stuck a mic on a 15" speaker. The two are mixed together with about 70% DI.
Vocals were through and Oktava MK319. I used an LA2A emulator and squashed both the lead and backup vocals.
The mix is very straight forward with a fair amount of compression (it's not going to be professionally mastered) and just a touch of reverb.
The goal of this recording was a simple direct representation of what Civella sounds like. No glitz. No excess production just a band rocking out. I think we met those goals in a very straight forward fashion.
